3 Herbs Women Should Use to Support Their Health

Posted by Leilani Shivers on

In honor of Mother’s Day, I want to share three herbs that are especially geared for women health. Although many herbs have been used by midwifes and herbalist throughout the ages, I find these herbs to be most useful and all encompassing for women's health.

1. Dong Quai

My all-time favorite is the Chinese herb Dong Quai (also known as Dang qui). This is a bitter herb that is useful for women from Menarche to Menopause. Dong quai is the female equivalent of Ginseng in men. It tonifies the blood and helps move stagnant blood. It is also useful in building blood. In Chinese medicine this herb has been used for disorders like PMS, infertility, and anemia just to name a few.

2. Red Raspberry Leaf

Red Raspberry Leaf is my favorite herb during pregnancy because it has a lot of nutrients. Drinking it during early pregnancy aids symptoms of morning sickness. Later in the pregnancy it helps to relax the uterus and prepare for delivery. It tastes pretty good as a tea, too!

3. Chaste Tree

Chaste Tree has long been used to balance hormones in women. Clinical studies have shown it to regulate Progesterone improving symptoms of PMS and menopause. It also supports normal reproductive functions.

These three herbs are just some of the important herbs used by midwives throughout the ages. Herbal medicine has long been utilized in aiding women starting in menarche. Remember, fertility is a sign of good health. When looking to start a family I recommend women taking supplements to support a healthy female urogenital system.
